Cataraqui Trail (South)

The Cataraqui Trail is a beautiful shared-use recreation trail welcoming hikers and cyclists in warmer weather, and snowmobilers and cross-country skiers in the cooler months. It spans 42kms from Smiths Falls to Chaffey’s Lock in Elgin, and passes flat farmlands and woods overlying limestone and sandstone. Its agricultural landscape and forested areas are home to a variety of insects, birds, and wild mammals, as well as native trees, shrubs, and vegetation. Although Cataraqui Trail is well groomed, users should be mindful of poison ivy and wild parsnip – both popular in the area, particularly off established pathways.
